From September 6 to 9, 2024, a community-based eye screening programme was held in Bachok, Kelantan, as part of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre's (UMMC) outreach efforts. This programme targeted individuals aged 2 to 80. The screening team, led by Professor Tengku Ain (consultant ophthalmologist), consisted of two medical officers and two medical laboratory technicians. All team members were responsible for testing visual acuity and taking fundus photography.
The team screened 84 participants with an average age of 31.7 years. Among them, 32 individuals presented with a visual acuity 6/18 or worse. The programme successfully identified undiagnosed ocular pathologies and cases requiring further intervention, with refractive errors being the predominant issue.
