Saturday morning, the 5th of August 2023
Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
It was a beautiful sunny morning (not knowing the impending gloom later that day), with a bunch of happy members of the department arriving although shamefully, some of us were at home snoring in front of the fan on full-blast. One might argue that the snorers were sufferers of OSA but OSA-associated retinopathy is not the topic for our intellectual discourse today.
Whilst waiting for the rest to grace us with their presence, some of us vented our anger in a more reserved manner i.e. by throwing water balloons at one another.
“A child’s play”, says one.
“Doesn’t matter, I don’t have to pay for therapy”, added another.
Therapy did not stop there. Other options were added to the arsenal including transferring water into bottles in a very inefficient manner using a sponge, and carrying ping-pong balls on a spoon. Sometimes we forget that we have hands.
Adults indeed do funny things for entertainment.
Next comes the Gala which conveniently started at night (a good tip when there are kids around - they’ll be asleep at this time round) and boy weren’t we jealous when the biggest lucky draw prize was an air-conditioner! I do hope that the cost of installation was covered too. The rest of us were instead blessed with the experience of attending a Gala dinner.
Talking about blessing, have I mentioned that we have talented singers amongst us? Dr Fazliana mesmerised us with her serenade, as if she had descended from the above.
All in all, the Family Day - or should I say, Weekend, was worth the sweat (and potentially, but hopefully not, blood) and effort. It was a fun break and a short getaway for the family - kids and adults alike.
Rain then trickled, hinting us that we have to quickly wrap things up and resume work the morning after. A somewhat harsh reality check.
Till then!
