This week, batch 2020/2021 or the graduating class of 2024, bids a grand farewell to UM. It seems strange that our paths go off separately now after four years of being heavily intertwined.
No thanks to the raging pandemic in 2020, our start to the Master's program began six months late. We became the first group to start the academic year in December instead of June. Despite the virtual introduction (we met online on small Teams screen windows), we grew quickly familiar with each other's families, quirks, and productivity styles.
Although the subsequent few years were formative for career progression in the form of gruelling exams, surgical training, and various assessments, they also encompassed pivotal life experiences. There were a few marriages, the birth of ‘Master’s’ babies, and even the development of a few health ailments.
They say, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and there were so many to be thankful to. Certainly, it took a crew of healthcare professionals (from the seminar rooms to the clinic corridors and under the operating room lights) to mould us for the next phase of our careers. Countless cups of caffeine, neverending hours of study groups, an umbrella dance performance, a cringe APT video, and multiple OPH candidate numbers later- believe it or not, it’s time to start all over again somewhere new. All the best, and I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for every one of you.
