Around 200 members of the public (staff included because who wouldn’t want free eye check AND a goodie bag?) participated in the World Sight Day - held over at Plaza PPUM from the 2nd till the 6th of October.
Nurses could be seen screening participants with sheer diligence
Optometrists were well-armed with their handheld fundus camera and autorefractor.
And of course, once again, we thank Horus for gracing the event with their handheld fundus camera (show photos).
The medical officers weren’t much of a help when it comes to using these cameras so the technicians were there to lend a hand.
Also, not to forget Luxvision for assisting with optometric assessment and the occasional need to use their slit lamp (otherwise, the walk-in clinic on those days would be bombarded with referrals)
God forbid reporting on these events without an intellectual discourse on lunch (thank you AbbVie): which we had lasagne with fruit tarts, and grilled chicken with rice together with traditional kuehs (10/10 would recommend).
We sent our early apologies to the medical officer on-call, in charge of the walk-in clinic for the mass exodus of patients. Luckily they were mostly cataract assessments, and a handful of semi-urgent reviews.
Fortunately, no one was sent to the Emergency Department.
Medical students from the University attended too which we hoped would piqued their interest in Ophthalmology (we’re looking forward to reviewing your application).
Heaps of thanks to our event sponsors - wouldn’t be as smooth without your generous support.
