Purpose, Precision and Passion; Cornea Procurement Workshop 2025

On the 22nd August 2025, the Department of Ophthalmology, Universiti Malaya held its annual corneal procurement workshop at Faculty of Medicine.

The session was led by our in-house cornea consultant, Prof. Sujaya, with Dr Lim Yi Wen. They guided the participants through the essential steps of corneal tissue procurement. 

This year, the workshop saw an enthusiastic group of final year and 3rd year trainees from the Master of Ophthalmology programme. The training began with a detailed demonstration, followed by a hands-on wet lab session. The participant were allowed to practice their skills on cadaveric goat eyes. 

Throughout the session, emphasis was placed on achieving the correct corneal button diameter, maintaining a smooth corneal surface, and ensuring the complete removal of uveal tissue. 

The hands-on approach provided the participants with exposure and confidence in performing delicate surgical techniques.

The department extends its appreciation to all facilitators and trainees for their active participation and teamwork. The workshop once again highlighted how meaningful learning can be, especially when driven by purpose, precision, and passion.
